Action for Public Housing (NSW)

Action for Public Housing

About

We are a grassroots, tenant-led community group, formed by local resident action groups and other public housing tenants and supporters.

We aim to defend and extend public housing:

  • DEFEND: stop the privatisation of public housing through sell-offs and redevelopment which demolishes existing public housing so that it can be replaced with private housing; and

  • EXTEND: increase public investment in public housing and Aboriginal community-controlled housing so that this stock can grow to meet the needs of the population and so that it can be maintained and renovated to improve the lives of existing tenants.

We started in 2016 in response to NSW Government plans to demolish and redevelop public housing estates in the inner-Sydney suburbs of Waterloo and Glebe and sell off public housing in Millers Point, Dawes Point and the Rocks. In 2021 we came together again during Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the announcement of further plans to demolish and privatise public housing in Glebe and Waterloo and the growing housing crisis.
